Meet our loss prevention reps:
Karen Abshier is a graduate of McPherson College (McPherson, KS) with a bachelor’s degree in Chemistry. After eight years at an environmental testing lab, she moved into the insurance industry. With more than 20 years of lab safety and insurance risk management experience, she’s worked with multiple industry groups. She’s familiar with the loss prevention challenges of a small business owner, as well as those of a multi-national corporation. She’s an OSHA 10/30 hour outreach trainer for general industry.
Jeff Bullington graduated from Eastern Illinois University in Charleston, Illinois with a bachelor’s degree in Industrial Technology and has worked in the insurance industry as a loss prevention consultant for the past 15 years. His fieldwork experience has been mainly with property and casualty insurance companies, along with workers’ compensation. Jeff joined West Bend in 2019 as a loss prevention representative. He’s worked closely with customers to perform risk analysis, provide risk management solutions, help lower their experience modification rates, and provide safer working conditions for their employees.
Dusti Butler started her career as a risk engineering representative for Zurich Insurance. Today, Dusti is the loss prevention representative for the Northwest Illinois territory at West Bend. She has 13 years of experience in insurance loss prevention. Dusti obtained her bachelor’s degree in Insurance from the Katie School of Insurance at Illinois State University. She also maintains the Associate’s in Risk Management certification.
Larry Ditscheit is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater with a bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety. He has more than 25 years of experience as a loss prevention professional in the insurance industry; he’s been a member of West Bend’s team since 1993. Larry is a member of American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE), an association safety committee member, and a Certified Safety Professional (CSP).
Alyssa Fredenburg earned a bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety and Health Management from Grand Valley State University in Allendale, MI, and a master’s degree in Business Continuity, Security and Risk Management from Boston University. She has seven years of experience in the manufacturing industry, working with a wide variety of risks including aerosol packaging and filling, plastic injection molding, and aircraft engine components. Before coming to West Bend, Alyssa was the environmental health and safety specialist, providing technical and administrative guidance in promoting safety policies, culture, and regulatory compliance. She joined West Bend in 2018, using best practice assessments and conducting detailed analyses of loss sources to help our customers find opportunities for improvement.
Chuck Henry started his career as a safety director in private industry, then moved to the insurance industry as a loss prevention consultant. Today he manages West Bend’s Loss Prevention Department. Chuck has more than 22 years of experience in insurance loss prevention. He earned a bachelor’s degree in Business Management and Human Resources/Training from the University of Wisconsin-Stout in Menomonie, WI, and a master’s degree from Edgewood College in Madison, WI. Chuck holds the Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) and Certified Risk Management (CRM) designations.
Mike Himes earned a bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Business from the University of Wisconsin-River Falls. Mike also has a master’s degree in Risk Control Management from the University of Wisconsin-Stout. He’s a Certified Fire Protection Specialist and also earned the Certified Safety Professional (CSP) designation. Mike has more than 20 years of loss prevention experience in the insurance industry and more than 7 years of safety experience in other industries.
David Kapitan is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Platteville with a bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety. He also earned the Certified Safety Professional (CSP) designation. During his extensive insurance career, David has obtained experience in multi-line loss prevention techniques with an emphasis in workers’ compensation, general/products liability, and commercial auto in a wide variety of industries that include construction, industry, retail, transportation, and health care. He’s also an OSHA 10/30 hour outreach trainer for construction and a member of the American Society of Safety Engineers.
Randy Kruser is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Platteville with a bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety. Randy has more than 28 years of experience as a loss prevention professional in the insurance industry. He’s a member of the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) and has earned the Certified Professional Environmental Auditor (CPEA) designation.
Cari Lamb is a graduate of Coe College in Cedar Rapids, IA with a bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Public Relations. Cari has more than 14 years of experience in the insurance industry. She helps customers develop safety plans and protocol to fit their needs. Cari’s expertise is in OSHA compliance and safety training.
Jennifer Perket is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin – Green Bay with a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Policy and Planning and Public Administration. She also obtained her Applied Safety Certification and started her path toward focusing on worker safety. In 2016 Jennifer started with West Bend as a loss prevention rep II, where she will provide risk management solutions and help develop safety plans that fit the needs of the client.
Tom Reed has more than 29 years’ experience in the insurance industry, 25 of them with West Bend. He earned a bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety and Health from the University of Dubuque in Dubuque, IA and is a certified trainer for the OSHA 10/30 hour construction-training program. Tom is a member of the American Society of Safety Engineers.
Phillip Rigsby has a bachelor’s degree in Business Management and a master’s degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Finance. Phillip’s experience includes working for both a risk analysis management company and the insurance industry. He’s also a certified fire protection specialist through the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA). Phillip has worked closely with customers to perform risk analysis, provide risk management solutions, and help lower their experience modification rates and provide safer working conditions for their employees.
Mindy Schuett is a graduate of University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh with a bachelor’s degree in Social Work and Business. She also earned an MBA in Risk Management from Concordia University. She’s worked in the insurance industry for more than 14 years, specializing in the evaluation of sprinkler systems, construction, and property assessments. In 2016, Mindy received the Risk Management Professional of the Year Award from the International Association of Insurance Professionals.
John Talaber is a graduate of Northern Illinois University with a bachelor’s degree in Industrial Technology, Emphasis: Safety, and a master’s degree in Industrial Management, Emphasis: Safety & Industrial Hygiene. He has 27 years of experience in multi-line loss prevention techniques with an emphasis in workers’ compensation, general/products liability, and commercial auto. He’s worked with a wide variety of industries, including construction, manufacturing, retail, transportation, and healthcare. John has also worked with both national and regional carriers.
Ron Wegner is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater with a bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety and has a certification in Fire Protection Technology from Oklahoma State University. He has over 26 years of workplace safety experience in both private industry and insurance. Ron has extensive experience with helping customers develop workplace safety and loss prevention programs, along with their workers’ compensation management processes. Ron is very active with the Wisconsin Council of Safety, serving on the advisory board and conference planning committee, and chairs the occupation safety professionals subcommittee. Ron is also very active in his local community, serving as a volunteer fire chief and EMT.
Dan Wilson has worked in the insurance industry for more than 26 years. He was a police officer for the State of Wisconsin before earning a graduate degree in Risk Management from the University of Wisconsin-Stout. Dan also earned the Associated Loss Control Management (ALCM) and Certified Safety Professional (CSP) designations. He works with a variety of customers, particularly in the area of work comp accident incident analysis, reports, and investigations.
