Salon Owners
Frequently Asked Questions

Who is this insurance program for?

West Bend’s program is specifically designed for salon owners.

Why do I need insurance?

As a salon owner, you need to carry insurance for your property (building and its contents), your liability, for your employees, and possibly for independent contractors who rent space from you. If you don’t have insurance, you could be risking your income and professional reputation. Insurance provides coverage that protects you from catastrophes to your property, like fire or wind damage, as well as from the potential financial impact of a liability claim, like a slip and fall, chemical damage, burns or cuts.

What types of services are covered under this policy?

Owners of salons that offer these services: cosmetologists, barbers, nail technicians, estheticians, and massage therapists.

What types of services aren’t covered under this policy?

Acupuncture, Botox, cellulite reduction, laser equipment, permanent cosmetic services including tattooing and body piercing (except ear piercing), and medical advice and services.

Why choose West Bend?

What is general liability insurance?

General liability, often referred to as business liability insurance, is coverage to protect you from claims including bodily injury, property damage, and personal injury arising from your business operations. General liability can protect you if you’re sued by someone who trips over your chair or table, incurs physical injuries caused by your products, or on whose expensive purse or coat you spill hair dye or oils.

What is professional liability and what does it cover?

Professional liability insurance provides coverage to pay for claims arising out of the rendering of or failure to render professional services in connection with your beauty operation as a hairdresser, nail technician, masseuse, or esthetician. Also known as malpractice insurance, professional liability insurance protects you if a client sues you over an alleged professional mistake, even if you didn’t make a mistake, but a client claims you did.

Does the insurance include coverage for my stock and equipment?

If the property is scheduled and covered under the policy, your business personal property, including your equipment/inventory, is covered for direct physical loss of or damage to covered property at the premises described in the declarations and caused by or resulting from any covered cause of loss (fire, lightening, windstorm or hail, theft, vandalism, and more.)
